Zeke blinked slowly, light streaming into his eyes. He had slept surprisingly restfully, but the morphine had long ago worn off, and the abdominal pain was back. He shifted himself into an awkward sitting position, removing the damp washcloth on his head. He reached for the cup and pitcher on his nightstand.
